Boston is home to a great number of prestigious universities and colleges such as MIT and Harvard, making it a leading city for international education. Students are surrounded by a stimulating academic atmosphere in a classic new England setting; the ideal environment for young learners in which to develop a sound foundation in American English.
The American English program for 16 to 17 year olds is specifically designed to develop the skills necessary for an academic and professional future using English as an international language, challenging students to immerse themselves in American English language and culture, and fostering strong language skills to give them a voice in the world.
OISE Boston is a modern school comprising 17 classrooms, a lecture hall, computer lab and a student lounge area, and provides a welcoming and safe environment for young learners.
The ideal pronunciation of English used to be the Queen’s, upheld as a standard by the BBC for many years. This standard has shifted a great deal in the last few decades and now both American English and British English are used all over the world for study and business. OISE’s American English Program focuses on English as an international communication tool. Strong language skills are nurtured while students delve into American culture.Learn more
The cultural programme is an integral part of the course as it gives students the opportunity to experience the English language and learn about British culture in a more informal setting. OISE Oxford offers students 5 cultural activities per week, all of which are included in the course price. The activities vary from week to week depending on what events are happening in Oxford and each activity is chosen for its cultural or linguistic value. Typical activities include a traditional afternoon tea, punting, walking tours, museum and college visits, pub crawls, theatre and cinema trips, concerts and weekend visits to Bath or London.
There is also a welcome party for new students every Monday and a farewell lunch on a Friday to say goodbye to students who are leaving.
Accommodation is with host families living across a large area of the town. Host families show the students how to get to school on the first day. All host families are thoroughly inspected and their credentials checked. Students are never housed with other students of the same mother tongue to enhance language learning.
Boston Logan Airport is situated on the outskirts of the city and takes only a 10 minute taxi ride to OISE Boston, which can also be reached by metro or bus. Boston has an efficient transport network: the Massachusetts Bay Transport Authority. The MBTA is very affordable, and a pass will allow you to use both the metro and the bus system which have services running late into the night.
Boston is both a sprawling metropolis and a beautiful harbour town.
